Quiz Night Scoreboard

Run your quiz night like a TV quiz: type each round's scores as you mark them, and the leaderboard on the TV or projector updates itself. Quiz Night Scoreboard handles jokers, half points, round maximums, ties and the tie-break, prints the answer sheets and results, and keeps every quiz so next week takes two minutes to set up.

For pub quizmasters, landlords, PTAs and schools, charities, clubs and office socials who mark paper answer sheets. Not for you if you want teams to answer on their phones, if you need a ready-made question pack, or if you need an app on iPhone or iPad.

Works offline in any desktop browser (Windows, Mac, Chromebook) and on Android. iPhone and iPad are not supported yet.

What it does for you

• Quick start: quiz name, venue, date, number of rounds and questions per round, and a pasted list of teams (duplicate names are skipped)
• Score entry built for speed: pick a round, type each score and press Enter, or use the big − and + buttons on a phone; scores above the round maximum are refused
• Jokers: each team plays one joker to double or triple a round; choose which rounds allow them
• Half points, round names, questions and maximum points per round
• Live table beside the score entry, with positions and ties
• Big screen for a TV or projector: welcome, round title, countdown timer, leaderboard, tie-break and podium; open it in a second window that updates as you type, or full screen
• The leaderboard only shows fully marked rounds, so a half-marked round never spoils the table; reveal results from the bottom, one team at a time
• Tie-break built in: closest answer wins, marked TB on the table and results
• Printable A4 answer sheets for every round (with a joker tick box), a host score sheet and a results sheet
• Every quiz is saved; Copy set-up starts next week with the same teams and rounds
• NEW in v5: Dashboard with the leader, the winning margin, the average score and the hardest round, plus charts of the running total of the top 5 teams after each round, the average score per round, the standings and the points won from jokers. Every chart has a text version for screen readers
• NEW in v5: Full keyboard use, screen-reader labels, a skip link and high-contrast colours (tested against WCAG 2.2 AA with axe)
• CSV export of the scores and of every quiz for Excel or Google Sheets; JSON backup and restore
• Demo quiz (8 teams, 6 rounds, a tie-break) to try it first

How it works (3 steps)

1. Open the app, try the demo, then press Use my data. On Quiz, enter the quiz name, rounds and questions, and paste your team names (about 2 minutes)
2. On the night, connect a laptop to the TV or projector, open the Scoreboard tab and press Open in a new window or Present full screen
3. After each round, open Scores, type each team's score and mark jokers; the big screen updates. At the end, reveal the results from the bottom and print the results sheet

What's included

• Quiz-Night-Scoreboard.html: the app. One file, opens in your web browser, works offline
• Start-here.pdf: quick-start guide with the 3-step plan and backup tips
• Demo quiz built in (8 teams, 6 rounds, a tie-break), so you can try everything first

Compatibility

• Tested in Google Chrome on a desktop (1440 px wide) and on Android phone sizes (390 px and 360 px wide)
• Also runs in current Edge and Firefox, and Safari on Mac
• Not iPhone or iPad yet: Safari on iOS cannot keep the app data from a downloaded file reliably, so we do not support it
• One self-contained file: no installation, no account, no subscription, nothing is sent over the internet

Instant download

This is a digital product. Nothing physical will be shipped. Your download link appears straight after checkout and is also emailed to you. Stuck or have a question? Email info@phkmedia.co.uk and I'll gladly help you set it up.

Good to know

• Scores are saved in the browser on the device you use. Run the night from one laptop and download a backup (JSON) now and then
• You bring the questions: the app keeps score and runs the screen; it does not include a question pack
• Check how the big screen looks on your TV or projector before the night
• Licence: use it for your own quiz nights (one venue, club or school)
• FAQ: Can teams answer on their phones? No. Teams write on paper answer sheets (you can print them from the app) and you type the marked scores in.
• FAQ: Do I need Wi-Fi at the venue? No. Once the file is on your laptop it works with no internet at all.
• FAQ: Can I use a second screen? Yes. Press Open in a new window, drag it to the TV or projector and press F for full screen. It updates live while you type scores on the laptop.
