Je sais, Vierge Marie is a tender and reverent Old French carol that honors the Virgin Mary. The carol’s title translates to “I know, O Virgin Mary,” and its lyrical style reflects the gentle devotion typical of French sacred music. 

The melody is associated with the tune LA VIERGE, which was preserved in The Oxford Book of Carols (1928), a landmark collection that helped safeguard many traditional European carols.
