A free, fill-in plan your family sets up together (set aside about an hour for the setup pages): one family word, one list of real phone numbers, and calm steps for the first hour if a scam gets through.

Let's be honest first. The advice in this plan is already free from the FTC, the FBI and AARP, and the plan names every source on its last page. What we added is the work of putting it together: one plan to fill in at the kitchen table, with the official numbers checked, phone settings taken from Apple's and Google's own help pages, and first steps sorted by how the money or information left.

WHAT YOU GET (free, instant download)

  • A 15-page fillable PDF. Type into it on a computer with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, or print it and write by hand. US Letter, works in black and white.

WHAT'S INSIDE

  • Read This First: three rules for the whole family
  • Our Family Word: how to choose it and who knows it (it is never written in the plan)
  • Call-Back List: your people, plus your bank, doctor and offices, with a box to tick where you copied each office number from
  • Phone Setup: iPhone, and Phone Setup: Android, step by step
  • The Kitchen-Table Talk: short lines that end a scam call politely
  • Teens and Kids: the scams that reach them, and what to do
  • The First Hour: what to do, depending on how the money or information left (gift card, wire, bank or Zelle, payment apps, card, crypto, computer access, Social Security number, password)
  • Three Common Scams: the cloned voice, the pop-up, the "wrong number" text
  • Who to Tell, and in What Order, including if it happened weeks or months ago
  • Incident Notes
  • Cut-out cards for the fridge and the wallet (the family word is not on any card, on purpose)
  • The official sources we used

WHO IT'S FOR

  • The grown son or daughter who wants to protect a parent, without a lecture.
  • Families who want one plan for everyone, teens included.
  • Anyone in the US who'd rather decide ahead of time than think fast during a scary call.

WHAT IT DOESN'T DO

No plan can promise you'll never be scammed. This one is meant to lower the risk and help you act fast if something happens. It is general information, not legal or financial advice. Phone menus change; if yours look different, check your phone maker's help pages.

HOW IT WAS MADE

Each fact in this plan was checked against the official source on that source's own website in October 2026; the sources are listed on page 15.

ALSO FROM OAKBRIGHT

The call-back list here is two pages. If you'd like the rest of the family's paperwork in one place (contacts, accounts, trusted people), our Family Emergency Binder does that: payhip.com/b/OX8n4. Full disclosure: it's our own product.
