The Name Variation Tracker is a digital spreadsheet designed to help you track the many ways an ancestor’s name may appear in records. Use it to organize spelling variations, nicknames, initials, married names, translated names, handwriting issues, indexing errors, and search attempts.

This tracker is especially helpful when one ancestor appears under multiple versions of the same name or when a family surname seems to change every time a new record shows up, because apparently consistency was optional.
