Feste di Olympia (for Brass Band) - DIGITAL

DIGITAL VERSION.

Suitable for bands 3rd section & above

FESTE DI OLYMPIA brings together the epic grandeur of Respighi’s The Pines of the Appian Way with the triumph and spectacle of the Olympic Games.

Written to commemorate 90 years since Ottorino Respighi’s death, the work draws inspiration from his celebrated Roman Trilogy, with quotations and musical references woven throughout. At its heart is the story of the 1960 Rome Olympics and one of the Games’ most extraordinary moments: Ethiopian athlete Abebe Bikila’s legendary barefoot victory in the marathon through the streets of Rome.

The music builds with the same sense of distance, procession and overwhelming arrival that makes Respighi’s music so powerful, before bursting into full Olympic celebration. Bold, dramatic and unapologetically triumphant, Olympian Festivals is designed to make an immediate impact — equally at home opening a concert or launching the second half in spectacular fashion.
