Stone From Mount Waldo
Stone from Mount Waldo
A historical Maine song about the granite industry that once shaped Frankfort and sent stone from a small town on the Penobscot River into some of America’s best known structures. Mount Waldo granite was used at nearby Fort Knox and can be found in the Washington Monument, the U.S. Senate Office Building, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the piers of the Brooklyn Bridge, and other major buildings and monuments across the country.
“Stone from Mount Waldo” tells the story of the quarry workers and the Maine granite they cut, stone that left Frankfort generations ago but still stands today as part of the country they helped build.
