The Anau culture formed in the Kopet Dag foothills after the Neolithic Jeitun horizon. Genetically, these populations are best understood as Predominantly Zagros/Iranian Neolithic–derived with minimal Eastern Hunter Gatherer and Caucasus admixture.

The Copper Age central asians served as the foundation for the later Oxus Civilization. In fact, the Oxus Civilization can be modeled as a mixture of Anau with Anatolian Farmers and Indus Valley Civilization.

For this video, I’ve prepared the raw genome of a Copper Age man from Anau, Turkmenistan. I used academic tools, such as admixtools 1 and 2, but also amateur tools, such as my AndreiMix and Trait Predictor, to analyze his genetics.

According to this qpAdm model, this sample is of majority West Eurasian stock, with some significant Basal Eurasian and East Eurasian admixture.

According to my Andreimix tool, this sample most closely matches the Helmand Culture, aka Shahr-I_Sokhta Bronze Age cluster number 1, and related groups. The mixture that most closely approximates this sample, according to my Andreimix, is 84 percent Helmand, 7 percent Sarmatian, 6 percent Caucasus, and some other trace ancestries.
