Cyber ​​crime rises 11.8% in 2020, highest in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi : India recorded 50,035 cyber crime cases in 2020, an increase of 11.8 per cent over the previous year. There have also been 578 cases of fake information on social media.

This information was received from official data on Wednesday. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the rate of cyber crime in the country (incidents per one lakh population) has increased from 3.3 per cent in 2019 to 3.7 per cent in 2020.

According to statistics, the number of cyber crime cases in the country in 2019 was 44,735 as against 27,248 in 2018. According to NCRB data, in 2020, 4047 cases of online banking fraud, 1093 cases of OTP fraud, 1194 cases of credit / debit card fraud and 2160 cases related to ATMs were registered.
 
It said there were 578 cases of fake information on social media, 972 cases of online threats or cyber threats to women and children, 149 cases of fake profiles and 98 cases of data theft. . The NCRB, which operates under the Home Ministry, said 60.2 per cent of cyber crimes registered in 2020 were related to fraud (30,142 out of 50,035).

According to the statistics, 6.6 per cent (3293 cases) of sexual abuse and 4.9 per cent (2440 cases) of rape were reported. The highest number of 11097 cyber crime cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh, 10741 in Karnataka, 5496 in Maharashtra, 5024 in Telangana and 3530 in Assam.

However, Karnataka had the highest crime rate at 16.2 per cent, followed by Telangana at 13.4 per cent, Assam at 10.1 per cent, Uttar Pradesh at 4.8 per cent and Maharashtra at 4.4 per cent.
