Fluctuation for flute and keyboard percussion

Fluctuation was written as a result of the composer’s desire to create new works for keyboard percussion and an enjoyment of performing with his wife, a flutist. Having previously performed several works for flute and keyboard percussion, the composer set out to create something that would optimize this common combination, yet be unique to their specific musical strengths and interests. What started out as a three movement work including flute, alto flute, piccolo, marimba, vibraphone, and xylophone, gradually mutated into one continuous work blending marimba and flute, marimba and vibraphone (one player), and vibraphone and alto flute. An engaging work that alternates between mixed meter dance-like figures and lyrical lines and accompanimental arpeggios, Fluctuation is a musically rich duet for college or professional level performers.
