The Dream of Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King was the most well-known person in the Civil Rights Movement. Dr. King's speeches, lectures, and remarks stirred the conscience of the nation. The movements and marches he led brought significant changes to the fabric of American life. His courageous and selfless devotion gave direction to 13 years of civil rights activities.

is philosophy of nonviolent direct action and his strategies for rational and non-destructive social change galvanized the conscience of this nation and reordered its priorities. The Voting Rights Act of 1965, for example, went to Congress because of the Selma to Montgomery March. His wisdom, words, actions, commitment, and his dreams brought a new awakening in America. 

He had a vision that one day in Alabama, little black boys and black girls will join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers. A beautiful dream. This vision included a nation in which children would have greater opportunities, justice would be available to all citizens, and freedom would be experienced across every region of the country. The hope was not simply for legal change, but for social change, building stronger relationships and greater understanding among Americans.

He set an example for us all. When I see the violent protests today that spew hatred and violence, it is my prayer, and I believe would be the prayer of Dr. King, that we would do so in peace, in love, and in brotherhood, not watering down a righteous cause, but doing so to lift all people rather than tear down those you disagree with.

He understood Matthew 22:39, "…love your neighbor as yourself. "Black ones, white ones, Asians, Hispanics, Native Americans. Let's embrace everyone as if you are part of our family, because you are.
