Sir Julius Benedict (27 November 1804 – 5 June 1885), also known as Jules Benedict, was a German-born composer and conductor who spent most of his career in England. Born in Stuttgart, he studied under the great Johann Nepomuk Hummel and Carl Maria von Weber, even meeting Beethoven in Vienna. Although his early operas didn’t achieve great success, Benedict found his stride in London with works like "The Gipsy's Warning," "The Brides of Venice," and "The Lily of Killarney."
