Simmons Army Airfield

Simmons Army Airfield (SAAF), located at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, is a key U.S. Army aviation hub. Built in 1952 and named after Warrant Officer Herbert W. Simmons, Jr., it supports the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade and Army Special Operations units. The airfield handles rotary- and fixed-wing missions, including air assault, medevac, troop transport, and logistics, making it vital to Fort Liberty’s rapid-deployment capabilities.
