I’ve always been intrigued by the small things at the bottom of the forest floor – the acorns, pebbles, fungi, ferns, and fallen leaves. Next to the trees, they may not always grab our attention, but when you get up close they are full of interest and beauty. This delicate lace scarf gives a nod to some of the shapes and textures of the forest floor using basic increases, decreases, and the Estonian nupp stitch. Two identical halves are worked separately and then grafted together. In a soft fingering weight yarn, this graceful scarf is ideal for draping around your neck when you need just a touch of warmth to be comfortable. Both written and charted instructions are provided for this pattern.
Size: 6” X 56” / 15 cm X 142 cm
Gauge: 24 sts / 26 rows to 4 in / 10 cm in blocked pattern. Gauge was measured along straight sections of stockinette stitch.
Needles: Size US 5 / 3.75 mm needles, or whatever attains gauge
Tools: Darning needle, scrap yarn or stitch holders, stitch markers (optional), blocking wires (optional)
Yarn: Approx. 315 yds / 288 m of fingering weight yarn. Sample shown in Subculture Yarn SW Merino Cashmere Nylon Fingering (70% Superwash Merino, 20% Cashmere, 10% Nylon; 406yds/371m, 4.06oz/115g per skein), in colorway “Tiny Forest”.
