In this detailed colour pattern The Crafty Nomad will show you how to piece together this contemporary patchwork design design is based on a set of stairs.  When I was a little girl, at bed time my mum always used to say ‘up the apples and pears’, which is cockney slang for stairs (we aren’t even from London!) hence the name.

The pattern comes with various options.  Firstly there are two size options: Small - Baby / Small Lap quilt (40x48 inches); and Large - Throw size (64x72 inches).  Secondly you can go for the simple stairs (great for beginners) or introduce some rows of flying geese (the triangles) to mix it up a bit and provide more of a challenge.  This pattern will provide dimensions to make all variations, and will show you how to construct the quilt top.

The pattern includes:

  • Full materials requirements
  • Full colour instructions
  • Cutting Instructions
  • Piecing instructions

IMPORTANT: This pattern assumes the reader has the knowledge to baste, quilt and bind the quilt.  However for those of you new to quilting I have added some tutorials on this on my website in the Tutorial Section.

Make sure to read the whole pattern all the way through before beginning your project.
