Overheard Whispers - Short Story

Short Story.

First Two Paragraphs:

Fiona set the last of the tall, pearlescent candlesticks on the table and studied her work. She barely had time to adjust the tablecloth before she heard Mistress’s shrill voice, "Fiona! Get over here!"

The problem was evident at once. There was chocolate pudding all over the floor, and the little duke was making mud pies in it. Mistress was standing over the scene, trying to avoid getting chocolate on her dress. She ordered Fiona to find some other servants and make sure it got cleaned up as soon as possible, and repeated what had been her constant refrain since the engagement, "This wedding must be flawless." Fiona saw to it that the task was accomplished.
