SMART Goals Alignment
A goal nobody can picture "done" for is a wish. Setting ones people can steer by — and connecting them up to what the team is chasing.
Most goals fail at the moment they are set: too vague to know when they are met, disconnected from anything the person can see moving, handed down instead of agreed. "Improve quality" is not a goal; it is a hope with a deadline nobody wrote. The fix is old and unglamorous — specific, measurable, sized to what is real, dated — but the harder half is connecting each person's goal up to the team's so they can see how their part moves it.
This course turns a plant target into goals a team can steer by, seven decisions at a time: specific enough to picture done, sized to reality, and set with the person rather than for them.
You will practice:
- Connecting a person's goal up to the team's and the company's, so they see how their part moves it
- Making a goal specific and measurable, so you both know what done looks like
- Sizing a goal to what is real, with a date you can hold to
- Setting the goal with the person, not for them, and agreeing when to review it
