This Acorn Craft and Write resource has students create a fall acorn craft and then use it as inspiration for writing, reflection and literacy practice. It is designed for 2nd to 5th grade and works for classroom teachers, homeschool families and sub plans.

Students build a unique acorn using the templates, bits and pieces, pick-a-pattern pages and choice-based design elements, with a PowerPoint tutorial to guide them through the craft steps visually. They then respond to fiction, nonfiction and opinion writing prompts about autumn and acorns, so one craft supports several kinds of writing.

HOW TO USE IT

Show students the craft steps with the PowerPoint, let them add their own artistic style, and then have them complete one or more of the writing tasks inspired by what they made. Use it for autumn writing, fall crafts, literacy centers, sub plans, homeschool projects, art integration and seasonal bulletin boards.

Lean into creative storytelling, focus on informational writing, or use the opinion prompts, depending on your students and goals. The planners, final draft pages, peer feedback, rubrics, exit ticket and reflections give the lesson structure if you want to spread it over more than one class.
