When Bear leaves home, they don’t slam the door—they slip out quietly, carrying only what they can hold and what they can’t say out loud.

Left behind is Mugs, their younger sister, still in the small-town house where silence settles into the walls and questions go unanswered. What follows is a trail of postcards—scribbled, smudged, sometimes hopeful, sometimes breaking—sent from bus stops, borrowed couches, coastal towns, and in-between places across British Columbia.

Through these letters, Bear begins to piece together who they are: non-binary, queer, searching for language, for safety, for a way to exist fully. But every word they send outward is also a thread pulling them back—toward Mugs, toward memory, toward the complicated gravity of home.

Tender, raw, and quietly defiant, Dear Mugs, Love Bear is a story of leaving and longing, of chosen identity and unchosen roots. It is about the distance between siblings—and the fragile, enduring ways love travels it anyway.
