This is an adorable double thick knit hat done on the Addi Express King Size - 46 needle Knitting machine! It can also be accomplished on a Small Gauge Knitting Loom. This pattern consists of machine knitting and crochet techniques It works up super fast on the machine for any member of the family. On the loom it will take time as you are doing it manually.
Please read through the pattern first
This pattern is completed on the Addi but the counts and rounds will work on the loom using the ewrap knit stitch.The yarns I used for this pattern are on the lighter side of a #4 worsted. Makes for a less bulky hat in the end I found.Your tension will play a big part in this pattern and will show in the resulting piece.. So that being said if you want a smaller hat use a firmer tension. I used a lighter tension as I wanted a lot of stretch in mine!
HINT : I always use a folded piece of wax paper to hold in my tension hand and have the yarn slide through it as I crank the machine! ( I treat my machine with kid gloves as I want it to last me a long time!) I have found using the technique that my piece looks better while almost never having issues with drop or twisted stitches.
So please think about the yarn you are going to use for this project as it makes a huge difference! I think Hobby Lobby’s I Luv This Yarn would be great choice! But I cannot get it here in Canada! Plus when I made this I had an order of 4 so I wanted all the same colors.
HINT Be Sure you machine is properly Mounted and secure!!! I also use the cupboard mesh liner under my machine ( see pic below )
Supplies.
Your Addi King Size Machine or Small Gauge Knitting Loom
4.5mm crochet hook,. Loom hook,. 3 Black buttons.
Scissors,. Yarn Needle,. Bent Tip Yarn Needle to remove work from Addi
Yarn
I Used the following yarns.
Pound Of Love in Cherry
Red Heart Soft in White
Phentex Worsted in Bright Yellow
Red Heart Soft in Black
Also needed and not shown!
Bernat Blanket Yarn for super easy Poms
Or u can use faux fur Poms!
Sizing
This hat fits my 22” head easily with a slight slouch
If u want to make it smaller decrease/increase each section by 2 rounds
Example I added 2 rounds to each section to make this a men's Santa hat!
