The world's population had been shrinking ever since the "Rapid Regressive Reckoning" virus began spreading and infecting people around the globe. In a matter of weeks, millions found themselves shrinking down to the size of insects. Governments collapsed, economies ruined. Society broke down as the tiny shrunken masses struggled to survive in a world that was now deadly and treacherous to them on every scale imaginable.


Among those afflicted was 12-year-old Tommy. He woke one morning to find himself no bigger than a beetle, his room resembling a cliff-face towering above him. Panicked, he scurried out his bedroom window to try and find help, but the dangers outside were all too real. Towering humans and pets saw him only as a pest, intent on squashing the tiny intruders underfoot.


"That's it, I've had enough of these damn bugs!" slurred Tommy's mother, Linda, from her drunken stupor on the couch. She had barricaded herself indoors, soothed only by the bottle, as the world fell apart outside. In her disoriented rage, she kicked off her high heels and pulled on her wooden clogs, stomping about the house.


"Can't trust anything anymore," Linda muttered. "Probably tiny people everywhere, trying to steal what's left of my life." Her paranoid rambling turned into disgusted screams as she spotted her shrunken son scurrying across the kitchen floor. "Fucking ants and roaches everywhere!"


"Mom!" Tommy cried desperately, waving his arms to get her attention. "It's me! I'm your son!"


But to Linda in her inebriated haze, he was just another pest, a threat to her survival. She swatted at him clumsily with one massive, wooden-soled foot...
