Elizabeth Bennet is one of the greatest, most beloved heroines in literature. She is clever, smart, and is described as having a spirited wit and good sense. Towards the end of the novel she has a showdown with Mr Darcy’s Aunt, and is called, “Obstinate, headstrong girl!” because she won’t let herself be bullied and stands up for herself and her family. I think it is such an important trait and wanted to design a shawl inspired by the charming Elizabeth. I opted for a large asymmetrical shape with bands of pretty slipped stitch motifs which really seemed to fit the Regency aesthetic to me. The shawl ends with a floral lace edging, and a garter stitch border with picot bind off. Perfect for semi-solid yarn in your stash, I chose colours I associate with Elizabeth’s gowns. It would work well in variegated too, with a solid contrasting colour to set it off.
