About the Composer: François-Auguste Gevaert (31 July 1828 – 24 December 1908) was a Belgian musicologist and composer. Born in Huise, near Oudenaarde, Gevaert was initially intended to follow his father's footsteps as a baker but pursued music instead. After studying at the Ghent Conservatory, he became a prominent figure in the music world, eventually leading the Brussels Conservatoire. Gevaert's compositions, particularly his choral works, were celebrated during his lifetime, and he remains remembered for his contributions as a teacher, historian, and lecturer.
