Hypnotic is named after that black and white image that you are supposed to focus on to aid entering into a hypnotic state. The similarity is accidental, but the end result reminds me of that spiral. I considered calling the pattern ‘Wormhole’, showing my fondness for science fiction, but thought the name may be unappealing for knitters who thought of worms instead ;).

Hypnotic is knit from the top down in the round. The collar is cast on first, with short rows used to shape the neckline. The colourwork chart is established and carries through to the underarm. The stranded chart is constant around the yoke throughout the increase section. Once the desired number of yoke stitches has been achieved, the sweater is divided so that the centres of the front and back are worked in a different motif than the sides of the sweater. Once complete, the yoke is divided into sleeve and front and back stitches, with the sleeve stitches put on hold. Underarm stitches are cast on, and the body continues in the round in the colourwork pattern to the hem. The sleeves are taken off of hold, and worked from the top down in the same pattern as the side chart.
