About the pattern

This is an intermediate knitting pattern for an ascot tie or cravat with feather motifs, one for each half. It can be worn as a scarf, or tied with a knot in front.

The length is adjustable and notes are present in the pattern where you can adjust it.

It is built from the middle toward the tips, first one half, then yarn is attached to the stitches provisionally cast on and the second half is made.

Blocking is essential to open up the lace and keep the fabric flat.

Size and measurements

When meeting gauge and working all rows in the pattern, the ascot measures 120 cm or 47” in length and 13 cm or 5” in width at the widest point.

Notions

  • Yarn: 21 g or 85-90 meters of size 1 or fingering weight wool or wool mix yarn at about 400-420 meters per 100 grams; 1 meter of scrap yarn in the same weight for provisional cast on;
  • Needles and hook: 2.5 mm straight or cabled needles or needles that give you the correct gauge;
  • Tapestry needle and scissors;
  • Blocking mat and pins.

A Tunisian crochet version of this pattern is also available.
