Checkmate Blanket - a knitting pattern

The pattern can be knit in any weight of yarn, and you may cast on a different number of repeats for a smaller or larger finished blanket.
Sample shown is a baby blanket in aran weight: 67 cm/26.5“wide x 86 cm/34“ long.
8 skeins of DROPS Big Merino by Garnstudio (100% merino; 75m/82y per 50g). Shown in overdyed Forget Me Not.
5.5 mm/US #9 circular needle, or appropriate size to get gauge.
Adjust the length of circular needles to the size of your blanket.
tapestry needle for weaving.
One pattern repeat (20 sts x 28 rows) is 12.5 cm/5” wide and 12 cm/4.75” high worked flat with needle 5.5 mm/US #9, after wet blocking, unstretched.
The gauge isn’t crucial on this project, but differences will affect the finished size as well as the required yardage.
