This Snowy Owl Art Project is a winter art lesson where students blend, smudge and layer pencil crayon and chalk pastel on black paper to create an expressive snowy owl. They use finger-blending to make soft, fluffy feathers and add fine details and depth with pencil crayons.

It is a low-prep lesson for classroom teachers, art educators and homeschoolers, and fits seasonal lessons, Arctic animal studies, or any unit on texture, shading, contrast and value.
