THE WHORE OF BABYLON
Created in 2008 in response to the financial crash, "The Whore of Babylon" is a highly detailed and provocative black-and-white artistic sketch that reflects the widespread disillusionment of the time. This piece is now available as a digital download.
The sketch features the Statue of Liberty, depicted in a state of severe degradation. Sitting on a curb, she appears as a drunken harlot, holding a bottle of malt liquor instead of her iconic torch. Her robe is provocatively hiked up near her waist, revealing garter belts and high heels. Lice are seen coming down from her lower region, and she leans back against a garbage can, symbolizing her fall from grace.
In the foreground, symbolic figures represent various marginalized groups. A Native American, wearing a shirt that reads "payback is a..." stands prominently, with an African man beside him, capturing the scene with a camera. The African man is muscular, with shackles and broken chains around his wrists, symbolizing freedom from past oppression. Next to him, a Japanese man nervously smiles as he takes a picture, while a nuclear mushroom cloud in the background alludes to the bombing of Hiroshima.
In the background, former President George Bush stands next to Osama Bin Laden, handing him a check, suggesting a controversial narrative regarding the World Trade Center attacks. The burning twin towers are visible behind them, adding to the contentious nature of the piece.
"The Whore of Babylon" is an intricate and controversial artwork that challenges viewers to reflect on the state of the world and the actions of corporate and political entities. It embodies the raw power of artistic expression, evoking strong emotions and prompting deep contemplation.
This digital download offers art enthusiasts and collectors an opportunity to own a piece that is as thought-provoking as it is visually captivating.
