The Riptide stitch pattern frames the sleeves and neckline of this elegant semi-cropped summer tee. These edges are seamlessly integrated into the top so that no finishing is required.
The soft rounded V-neck merges at a perfect depth and flows into the body to carry the riptide stitch pattern via a central panel to the hem, where the tee is finished with a simple garter and eyelet stitch.
The body can be worked straight, or there is a subtle waist-shaping option.
Construction Notes:
Riptide Tee is worked in one seamless piece from the top down. Commencing with the back, the neck and shoulders are shaped using German Short Rows, and then the back is worked flat to the underarm. Front shoulder stitches are then picked up from the back cast on edge and the front is worked flat to the same back length. At the underarms, stitches are decreased using a 3-needle bind off on the reverse side of the work. The front and back are then joined for working in the round.
The body can be worked straight, or there is a waist-shaping option.
The hem is composed of simple garter and eyelet stitches.
Gauge
As with all V-necks, row gauge is important. If row gauge is less than 32 rows over 10cm/ 4”, the finished neck depth will be deeper than the Schematic indicates.
Body length
You may lengthen this garment by knitting more body length before commencing the hem. Try on as you go and adjust accordingly. Adding length will require additional yardage.
