THE RECORD: Fragment 002 — The Three Factions
The Marches does not explain itself. Neither do the factions.
Fragment 002 is the second release in THE RECORD series — classified documents from the Inner Marches Archive, curated by the Watcher.
This fragment covers:
— THE WEIGHT-CARRIERS
They carry unresolved cost as identity, not as burden. They do not warn. They mirror. The distinction determines what the traveller perceives when they encounter one.
— THE THRESHOLD FIGURES
Stationed at landmarks and edges. Present across the full documented span of the Archive, from entries that cannot be dated to entries from last month. They do not appear tired. The traveller who reads this as reassurance has misread it.
— THE DISSOLVERS
Not figures. Events. They expose internal contradiction — not as punishment, not as attack. The Record is explicit: they are not hostile. They serve the law that states nothing in the Marches goes unresolved. They are what that law looks like when it meets a contradiction that has been held too long.
This fragment also covers the Watcher's relationship to all three factions, and the critical distinction between a faction that functions as guide and a faction that functions as expression of law.
The factions are not guides.
