Before becoming a doula I spent many years as a mental health worker and after having my own children, my passion for mental health evolved into a passion for maternal mental well being and navigating matrescence. I am now a Postpartum doula servicing Sydney, NSW and have realised how little information women are given when navigating the birthing system. As someone who has had to navigate the medical system a lot as an oncology mother with my youngest child, I know the importance of understanding your options, the strength in advocating for yourself and how powerful knowledge of the system is. This is what has brought me to developing this handbook, so that all expectant mothers are educated on all their options, how the system works, how labour naturally progresses, ways to manage during labour and the cascade of intervention.
My hope is that after reading this handbook you feel a little more prepared for this life changing experience and that you feel empowered to make informed decisions regarding your birth!
