This is an adventurous beginner to intermediate Tunisian crochet pattern that takes advantage of working in the round and a relatively small variety of stitches to create an entertaining diamond pattern for a cowl in DK-weight yarn. It was originally created in collaboration with AT Haynes House Yarns using their Fall 2022 We Got You Collection – hence the name “Got Pretties Cowl.” I would love to see your versions! Please share your creations on social media with #gotprettiescowl and #millietansillmakes.
Gauge: 12 stitches x 18 Rnds = 4” x 4” (10cm x 10cm) measured over Tks.
Size: 59” x 9.25” (150 cm x 23 cm)
This cowl presumes familiarity with working in the round in Tunisian crochet. In the Foundation Row until the beginning of Round 1 you will need to use a hook with a long cable. For the rest of the project, you will need to use either a double-ended hook or two hooks of the same size joined by a cable.
If you want a longer or shorter cowl, increase or decrease your foundation chain by multiples of 12. Every 12 chains translate into a diamond.
Hooks:
One stitch marker for tracking beginning of round
Sample cowl used 605 yds (554 m) total of AT Haynes House Yarns in Community DK yarn base (100% superwash merino, 231 yds (211 m) / 100 g) in five colors:
The pattern also works well if you would prefer to only have one main color (C1 + C4).
This cowl was designed in collaboration with AT Haynes House Yarns. A kit with two 100 g and three 50 g skeins of DK-weight yarn contributed to the final dimensions of this design.
