Give students a fun way to practice asking and answering questions about a text. The Fall Harvest Card Game plays like traditional Go Fish: students ask for a question word (Who, What, When, Where, Why, How), then ask a real question about a short story. Every card is an answer from the story, so students go back to the text to check their thinking.

One game, three grades. Everyone uses the same cards and the same question stems. Only the challenge rule goes up: Grade 3 asks in the present tense, Grade 4 asks in the present and the past and answers in a complete sentence, and Grade 5 proves a card with the paragraph number and the exact words from the story.

  • Story: Harvest Day at Grandpa's Farm (6 numbered paragraphs, color pictures)
  • How to play, question stems, and grade challenge cards
