Five full days of substitute-ready middle school math in one no-prep download, built for the problem that makes a math absence hard: the person covering your room almost certainly cannot teach integer sign rules or the Pythagorean Theorem. Nothing here asks them to. Every page opens with a fully worked example that states every rule that page needs, every second page checks its own answers, and a run sheet at the front tells the substitute exactly what to hand out. The five days cover the spine of the grade 6-8 course, so the set can be handed over as a week or pulled one day at a time. You come back to a complete set of answer keys and a class that kept working.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

- Sub & Teacher Notes run sheet (what to hand out each day, what to print, and why the substitute does not need to grade anything)

- 5 days of student work, two pages per day (109 problems total)

- 5 complete answer keys, one per day

- Single 17-page PDF: run sheet and student pages first (pages 1-11), an "Answer Keys" divider on page 12, then the keys (pages 13-17) -- print pages 1-11 to hand out the whole week without printing the keys

- PDF bookmarks for one-click navigation by day

- US Letter, low-ink, two-sided printable

WHY A SUBSTITUTE CAN ACTUALLY RUN THIS

- Every page opens with a fully worked example, so a stuck student reads the page instead of asking the sub a math question

- Every second page checks itself -- answers trace a path through a maze or spell out a punchline, so a wrong answer is caught by the student, not adjudicated by the sub

- Every day has an "if you finish early" challenge, so nobody runs out of work

- No calculator, textbook, login, or internet needed

THE 5 DAYS

1. Integers & Rational Numbers -- adding and subtracting signed numbers, sign rules for multiplying and dividing, absolute value, and the number line (25 problems, decoder)

2. Ratios, Rates & Percent -- simplifying ratios, unit rates, percent of a number, proportions, and percent increase and decrease (20 problems, maze)

3. Expressions & Equations -- combining like terms, the distributive property, evaluating expressions, and one- and two-step equations (21 problems, decoder)

4. Geometry: Area, Volume & Angles -- area of rectangles, triangles and circles, volume and surface area, angle relationships, and the Pythagorean Theorem (20 problems, maze)

5. Data & Probability -- mean, median, mode and range, reading the common data displays, and simple and compound probability (23 problems, decoder)

Each day stands alone, so they can run in any order or be pulled one at a time.

PERFECT FOR

- Emergency and planned substitute days in Middle School Math (grades 6-8)

- Planned absences, professional development days, and testing weeks when you are pulled to proctor

- Review before a test, the first week of school, or the day before a break

- Homeschool families working through Middle School Math

STANDARDS TOUCHED

Common Core Math: 6.NS.C.7.C (understanding absolute value as a number's distance from zero), 7.NS.A.1 (adding and subtracting rational numbers, with subtraction as adding the opposite), 7.NS.A.2 (multiplying and dividing rational numbers, and converting a fraction to a decimal by dividing), 6.RP.A.2 (understanding the unit rate that goes with a ratio, and using rate language), 6.RP.A.3.B (solving unit rate problems, including unit pricing and constant speed), 6.RP.A.3.C (finding a percent of a quantity as a rate per hundred), 7.RP.A.3 (using proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems, including markdowns and tax), 6.EE.A.3 (applying the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions), 8.EE.C.7.B (solving linear equations with rational number coefficients), 6.G.A.1 (finding the area of triangles by composing them into or decomposing them from rectangles), 7.G.B.4 (knowing the area and circumference formulas for a circle and using them to solve problems), 7.G.B.6 (solving problems involving the area, volume and surface area of triangles, quadrilaterals and right prisms), 8.G.B.7 (applying the Pythagorean Theorem to find an unknown side length of a right triangle), and 7.SP.C.7.A (developing a uniform probability model and using it to find probabilities).
