Bibi Wrap crochet pattern
⚠️ WARNING: This is not a traditional pattern. There is no gauge. There is no yarn weight requirement. Bring your scraps and your sense of adventure.
This one is for all that granny square lovers who don't love weaving in all those yarn ends. The Bibi Wrap allows you to retain the granny square aesthetic for a fraction of the work. Are you ready for the easiest granny wrap top? The Bibi wrap is basically two granny hexagons, folded and sewn together along the shoulders and down the middle of the back.
The sizing is universal: you make as many rounds in your granny hexagons as you need. We all have different bodies, so maybe your shoulders and back are wide, and that is what your granny hexagon should cover.
Because the belt goes through any gap between any two granny clusters, you can really customise your fit. Choose to thread your belt further towards your back for a very snug fit, or thread it classically at the side of your waist. Also, this means we can wrap the Bibi Wrap either left over right, or right over left. I would really recommend that you make two different hexagons so you get two looks out of it.
Depending on whether you are making the Bibi Wrap in winter or in spring, you might want to have long sleeves or be content with the 3/4 sleeves. Make the Bibi Wrap with mercerised cotton yarn and three-quarter sleeves for spring and summer. Then cuff the sleeves for a slightly puffed sleeve effect. OR make it extra chunky and variegated with two to three strands of wool yarn and longer sleeves for winter.
What you need:
This pullover is designed to help you use up your yarn scraps.
The pictured spring/summer edition of the Bibi Wrap was made using 13 different-coloured skeins of Group A mercerised cotton yarn, and a 4mm hook. The more skeins, the more colourful! Only a few skeins were completely used up, I just used a lot of skeins because I wanted a lot of colours.
XS/ US 0-2/ EUR30-32: 8 skeins of Group A yarn
S/ US 4-6/ EUR34-36: 9 skeins
M/ US 8-10/ EUR 38-40: 10 skeins
L/ US 12-14/ EUR 42-44: 12 skeins
XL/ US 14-16/ EUR 44-46: 14 skeins
Additionally: Measuring tape, stitch markers, tapestry needle, scissors, and a colour wheel if mixing colours makes you nervous.
Who is the crochet pattern for:
This crochet pattern is suitable even for advanced beginners who want to graduate past beanies and scarves, to tackle their first crochet garment. The granny hexagon is an easy step-up, and a wrap top an elegant and forgiving project.
What this crochet pattern contains:
We all have different bodies and personalities, and if you are going to sit down and make your own clothes, then it better be exactly what you want, and not what the pattern says you should do. I show you ways to vary this pattern: the cuffs, the waistband, accommodating bigger busts. Think of this as a blueprint, not a pattern.
The pdf is 38 pages because it is formatted to be legible on your mobile phones without zooming in and panning. It is also available in an ebook (.epub) format.
