It’s Angel.
Cheryl met Angel at a career day attended by over 1,000 students. When asked about dreams for the future, one determined seventh grader spoke up — she wanted to illustrate a book.
And she didn’t stop there.
Angel followed up with a phone call. She wanted it badly enough to take action. Soon, with her mother’s support, she traveled 30 miles to Cheryl’s home, sketchbook in hand, ready to begin.
Angel created the original illustrations of the dogs and their humans. Her drawings were later lovingly digitized by a professional illustrator in Spain — preserving her heart and vision while bringing them to life on the page.
This book is a birthday celebration for Sammy.
But it is also a celebration of courage. Initiative. Follow-through. And what happens when a young dreamer says, “I can do this,” and someone believes her.
Helping others achieve their dreams is one of Cheryl’s deepest callings. She knows firsthand that obstacles do not define us — determination does.
