YA Science Fantasy Series (AP/IB Creative Writing Class)

This advanced creative writing unit transforms your classroom into a collaborative world-building studio where students create an original science-fantasy adventure series for younger readers. Inspired by the imaginative, long-running storytelling of Doctor Who and other iconic franchises, students will build a shared universe with a central hero (a regenerating protagonist), companions, recurring villains, and interconnected adventures. Each student will create their own version of the central hero, develop companions, and write multiple installments (1–5 parts, 5,000–10,000 words per part) that contribute to a larger, cohesive series. The unit emphasizes collaborative world-building, character evolution through regeneration, legacy storytelling, audience awareness, and creative freedom within a shared framework.
