Superbowl House Potholder Sewing Patterns PDF for kitchen pot holders 2 sizes - Buy NFL fabric to make!

Who will win the Superbowl 2025? Will it be the Philadelphia Eagles or the Kansas City Chiefs? May the best team win, playing fairly! (I am partial to the Eagles since I live across the river from Philadelphia, in NJ). Well, you can help support the team you want to win, by making my house shaped kitchen potholders, with chimney hang loop and keychain ring! You pick the fabric, NFL fabric or any print or solid you want, then buy ironing board fabric and Insul Bright heat reflective batting, to make a very hot repelling kitchen textile oven mitt or hot pad / trivet!

6 hanging loop options, with 1-2″ wide strips, folded, seam allowances turned in, and folded over, to make loop, with options:

Supplies needed:

  • minimum 1/3 yard of each (more for design print, if intricate / complicated repeat pattern, for design layout of pocket & house shape panel to align) – can yield up to 2 pot holders per 1/3 yard:
  • -print or solid fabric – for house panel and pocket
  • -ironing board fabric – cut 2 house shape panels, & 1- 2 strips for hanging loop – also called Therma Flec or silvercloth
  • -Insul Bright heat reflective batting, by the Warm Company – cut 2 house panels without “eaves”, pattern provided, can use other batting
  • key chain ring
  • coordinating thread – large roll (I use 2500 m roll), or 2 small rolls, to coordinate with background color of design print fabric
  • silver or gray thread – large roll or 2 small rolls

optional:

Velcro / hook & loop

clear vinyl or up to 2 clear sheet protector pages

TIP: I use clear vinyl, and transfer the house shape panel to the clear vinyl, and bring it with me to the fabric store. That clear house shape pattern helps me determine the print layout, and how much fabric to buy. I then use it to sew a stitch line around the clear house shape panel for the design print fabric & pocket. You can make a pocket panel with the clear vinyl or sheet protector page. I pin straight through the clear pattern through the fabric to make my stitch line as a guide, to match the stitch line of the print house fabric panel & the ironing board fabric house panel

The key is to back stitch on both sides of all inner and outer corners, to reinforce the panels sewn together, and then you can cut away excess seam allowances really close to the stitch line, and turn out the sewn panels, using a closed pen or dull pointy object to push out the seams for nice angles on the house panel. You can also sew around the outer edge of the finished house pot holder, to “finish” the piece, and also adding reinforcement to the seams.

Use heavy duty machine needles, 110/18 size preferably, and buy 2-3, just in case, as a back up.
