The Drywall Estimate Calculator Pack: Seven linked calculators, every formula checked by recalculation
Seven calculators for estimating and pricing drywall jobs from your own measurements, coverage and hours, not from anyone's price list. Sheet 1 turns room dimensions into wall and ceiling area with doors and windows taken out: 533 sq ft in the worked example. Sheet 2 counts sheets for two sheet sizes you choose, with your waste allowance, and shows which costs less. Sheet 3 works out mud, tape, screws and corner bead from coverage figures you enter. Sheet 4 turns your hang and finish hours per sheet, by finish level, into labor hours and cost. Sheet 5 shows your price per sheet and per square foot, sheet 6 sets a minimum for small patch and repair jobs, and sheet 7 checks a bid against your full cost and overhead. Every figure is an example for you to overwrite. These are estimates, not tax, legal or building code advice. Every formula was recalculated and checked against an independent implementation before this shipped.
What is in it
7 calculators, one per sheet. Overwrite the blue cells with your own numbers and everything else follows. Nothing is locked, there are no macros, and it opens in Excel, Numbers, LibreOffice and Google Sheets.
- Wall and ceiling area: How much wall and ceiling surface does this room need covered?
- Sheets by size: What sheet count does each size need, and which costs less?
- Mud tape screws and bead: How much mud, tape, screws and corner bead does the job take?
- Hang and finish labor: What labor does the job take at the finish level you select?
- Per sheet vs per sq ft: What does your price come to per sheet and per square foot?
- Patch and repair minimum: What is the least a small patch job can be priced at?
- Bid and profit check: Does this bid cover the job and your overhead and leave a profit?
Every formula was checked
This pack contains 62 formulas. Before it was published, every one of them was recalculated by a spreadsheet engine and compared against an independent implementation of the same arithmetic written in Python. All 62 agreed to within a cent, and the workbook carries a Verification sheet saying so.
That is an unusual thing to be able to claim about a spreadsheet, and it is the main reason to buy this one rather than download a free template. A formula that looks right and is wrong is worse than no formula at all, because you will act on it.
What each calculator assumes
There is a sheet listing this, because a calculator that hides its assumptions is just a number generator:
- The room is a rectangle with flat walls of one height. Openings are subtracted at the sizes you enter. Closets, soffits, bulkheads and sloped ceilings are measured separately and added by you.
- Sheet counts are rounded up to whole sheets from area plus your waste allowance; they are not a sheet-by-sheet layout. Prices are what your supplier quotes you.
- Coverage per bucket, tape per sheet and screws per sheet are your own figures. Every purchase is rounded up to whole buckets, rolls, boxes and pieces; leftovers are charged to this job. Inside corner tape is inside the tape per sheet.
- Hours per sheet are your own figures for each level; this pack does not say what a finish level requires or which one a job needs. Drive time is paid time. Sanding and cleanup are inside your finish hours.
- Margin is profit as a share of the price, not a markup on cost. Overhead is not in this job cost; sheet 7 adds it. The rate you are weighing is your own, not a market figure.
- Every visit includes a round trip. Overhead is not added; use sheet 7 for that. The margin you enter is yours, not a market minimum.
- Overhead is spread over the labor hours you bill in a year. Profit is before tax. Change orders and extra trips are not included until you add their hours.
What this is not
Not financial, tax or legal advice, and not a recommendation to buy, sell, borrow or sign anything. These are calculators: they show what a choice costs, not which choice is right for you. Where a published rate or threshold is used it is the one current when the pack was built; those change, the arithmetic does not.
Honest about the format
One .xlsx workbook, 7 calculator sheets plus Start Here, Assumptions and Verification. Not a PDF, not a physical product, not a Notion template. Available immediately after purchase; nothing ships.
