This one belongs to the cat.

Nappi has run this flat since before the snakes arrived, and he would like a few things put in writing. The sofa is his. The window is his. The warm patch on the floor is his, and so is the other warm patch, and every bag the moment it touches the floor, and the stairs in both directions, especially when somebody is carrying something.

The two glass boxes are not his. They came with snakes in them, and he has accepted it.

Told entirely from Nappi's side, this collection is the household seen by the only one who can cross a room. He carries messages between two tanks that cannot hear each other, and edits every single one of them in both directions, because if he delivered the words exactly they would stop speaking and he would have nothing to do all winter. He patrols. He counts. He checks the tanks eleven times a day, to the man's twice, and nobody thanks him.

Then the front door is left open for four minutes, and after eleven years indoors he walks out into a floor with no edges, where nothing is his and nothing needs him, and he does the arithmetic, and he comes back.

Ten chapters of comic strips and six full Sunday pages, narrated by a cat who owns a great deal, for someone who owns nothing, and who finally works out what the list was always for.
