Three Battles, Three Eras: A Veterans Day History Set (Berlin Airlift, Midway, Ia Drang) | Grades 7–12 Printable
Three print-ready history lessons for Veterans Day week, one for each era: the Berlin Airlift (1948–49), the Battle of Midway (1942) and the Battle of the Ia Drang (1965).
What students learn
- Berlin Airlift: how an air corridor agreement and a reorganized airlift kept a blockaded city supplied, and why "Black Friday" (Aug 13, 1948) changed the operation.
- Midway: what happened at 10:22 on June 4, 1942, and how historians test the famous "five minutes" story against the records.
- Ia Drang: the first major U.S. air-assault battle by helicopter, and why we mark Veterans Day on November 11 (from Armistice Day to Veterans Day).
