After-Hours Intake

Former EMT Iris Bell takes an overnight job at St. Alden County Hospital, hoping for quiet work away from the emergencies that haunt her. But on her first shift in the morgue, a disconnected telephone rings, an envelope addressed to a girl dead for decades appears in her locker, and a fourteenth refrigeration drawer materializes where only thirteen should exist.

With longtime porter Tomas Vega, Iris investigates a devastating hospital fire and falsified records that have erased the names of the dead. As the hospital’s paperwork begins to reshape reality itself, she must confront the institution’s buried secrets before more lives are written out of existence.
