HEARTBEAT PROTOCOL

A Thriller Short Story

By Oryxia Bluebelle

Imani Vale has survived the supernatural world by trusting one thing above everything else—her heartbeat.

For eleven years, a mysterious second pulse has warned her whenever something unnatural is near. It has never failed her.

Until Malachi Reed.

The moment Imani meets the enigmatic former researcher, her warning goes silent.

Now monsters are hunting them, a dangerous classified project has disappeared, and someone inside the organization

Imani works for may be hiding the truth. Her orders are simple: keep Malachi alive.

Trusting him was never part of the assignment.

But with danger closing in and every familiar instinct suddenly unreliable, Imani must depend on training, evidence—and the one man her supernatural senses cannot read.

Malachi knows more than he’s willing to reveal.

Imani has secrets of her own.

And somewhere in Chicago, something powerful is waiting to turn the hidden supernatural world into a weapon.

When your heart can warn you about monsters, what happens when it falls silent around the man you’re supposed to protect?
