Round, Round, Get Around Shawl

For quite some time now, I’ve had a knitting design idea that involved slipped stitches to make round chains. Things finally came together for that idea when I put with it the concept of starting with very few stitches and increasing until I ran out of yarn. Thusly, the Round, Round, Get Around Shawl was born!

The shawl can be knit in either DK weight yarn or 4-ply/fingering weight yarn. 2 colours are my choices for this project, but the knitter could easily adapt it to use 3 or more colours. The shawl is asymmetrical in design which allows for a multitude of ways to wear it. See the end of the pattern for photos of a few of my favourite ways to style the shawl. Aggressively blocking the shawl gives it amazing stitch definition and drape.

So grab your needles and let’s knit a lovely shawl! Happy Knitting!

One of the unique elements of this design is that it will only have 4 ends to weave in (2 at the beginning and 2 at the end). Because of this, you’ll need to make sure you twist and carry the colour you’re not working with up the side of your shawl at the beginning of each right side row.

Another unique element of this design is the ability to use as much yarn as you have and/or to knit until the shawl is the size you want. Just make sure you follow the directions in the bindoff section about where to stop in whichever repeat you choose.

For your yarn choices, you’ll want at least one of your two colourways to be a solid or semisolid colourway. Your second colourway can be variegated or another solid or semisolid colourway.

The knitter needs to be comfortable with the following techniques: knit, purl, knit front and back (KFB), and slipping stitches both with yarn in front and with yarn in back. Instructions for all these techniques are included in the pattern.

This shawl is knit flat.
