My work as a conductor, violinist and former structural engineer has given me a unique perspective on the music I conduct and perform. My rigorous musical training is coupled with a curiosity and creative approach to preparation and performance, and I am constantly evolving as a musician, mentor and coach.
Through my coaching I seek to share these perspectives with advanced composers, instrumentalists and music students, giving you a completely different way of thinking about your work.

Composers - Learn to Think like a Conductor
As a composer...
It can be difficult to separate yourself from your work, to take a step back and think about it objectively.
In your first session we look at preparing a piece by Schoenberg and Stravinsky as a conductor. You then take these skills, apply them to your own work, and we discuss possible changes as a result - musical, gestural, notational etc.

Instrumentalists & Singers - Creative Music Making Coaching
As an instrumentalist...
It is easy to get lost in the technical issues of just getting the notes right! Your regular teacher is probably doing an excellent job with this aspect, but sometimes there isn't time to take a step back and think about the music you are performing from multiple angles!
This is where I can help!!
In our first session we explore a major symphonic work, thinking about the possibilities, from the conductor's point of view.
Then, together we will explore the music you are working on, looking at possibilities of phrasing, line, dramatic arc, rhythmic vitality to give you new perspectives on your performance.

How does appointment scheduling work?
