(Inspired by Romeo and Juliet)

[Intro]

In fair Verona, beneath a crimson sky,

Two noble houses stood divided by their pride.

Generations of anger, generations of pain,

No one remembered why the hatred remained.

The streets carried whispers,

The children learned fear,

And every passing season

Only sharpened the spear.

[Verse 1]

Two households, both alike in dignity,

Bound by honor and old hostility.

From ancient grudges rose another fight,

Turning peaceful days into violent nights.

Brothers against brothers,

Neighbor against friend,

The cycle of vengeance

Had no visible end.

[Pre-Chorus]

But fate was already writing

A story no one could see,

A flame would soon ignite

Between destiny and tragedy.

[Chorus]

Two households, both alike in dignity,

In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,

From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,

Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.

Two hearts would dare to dream

Beyond the walls of hate,

Not knowing love and sorrow

Were waiting at the gate.

[Verse 2]

A masquerade beneath the candlelight,

Music echoed through the summer night.

A glance across a crowded room,

A rose in bloom, a hint of doom.

Romeo saw Juliet standing there,

Like moonlight dancing through the air.

Juliet looked and the world stood still,

A moment stronger than human will.

[Pre-Chorus]

The stars above grew silent,

The heavens held their breath,

For every step toward each other

Was a step toward death.

[Chorus]

From forth the fatal loins of these two foes

A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life;

Whose misadventur'd piteous overthrows

Doth with their death bury their parents' strife.

Yet all they saw was beauty,

All they felt was fire,

Two young souls believing

Love could lift them higher.

[Instrumental]

Strings rise.

Church bells echo.

Electric guitar carries the melody.

Storm clouds gather over Verona.

[Verse 3]

Secret vows beneath the moon,

Promises whispered much too soon.

Friar's blessing, hidden rings,

Dreaming of impossible things.

But shadows followed close behind,

Mercutio's laughter left behind.

Tybalt's fury filled the square,

And death was suddenly everywhere.

Romeo's hand, a desperate strike,

Changed their future in a single night.

Banished far from Juliet's side,

Leaving broken hearts to hide.

[Pre-Chorus]

The stars that once had guided them

Now darkened overhead,

The road they thought led home

Was leading them instead...

[Chorus]

The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love,

And the continuance of their parents' rage,

Which, but their children's end, nought could remove,

Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage.

Every tear they cried

Every prayer they gave,

Only carried them

Closer to the grave.

[Bridge]

One sleeping potion...

One message never read...

One desperate journey...

One tomb among the dead...

Juliet sleeps in silence,

Romeo believes she's gone.

He drinks the poison willingly,

Before the break of dawn.

She wakes to find him lifeless,

His final breath now flown,

And with a dagger to her heart,

She chooses not to live alone.

[Final Chorus]

Two households, both alike in dignity,

In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,

From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,

Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.

From forth the fatal loins of these two foes

A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life;

Whose misadventur'd piteous overthrows

Doth with their death bury their parents' strife.

The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love,

And the continuance of their parents' rage,

Which, but their children's end, nought could remove,

Is now the story sung across the age.

[Outro]

The hatred finally faded,

The swords were laid to rest.

But love paid the price

For what pride could not confess.

And still beneath Verona's sky,

Their names forever shine,

Two star-crossed souls

Defying space and time.
