Shibari in Japan - A Practical Guide from Experience

This is not a tourist guide and not a theory PDF.

It’s a field guide built from years of traveling to Japan, taking classes, visiting rope spaces, and navigating the Shibari scene.

If you’re planning to explore Shibari in Japan, this guide will save you time, money, and confusion.

Inside you’ll find:

  • Where to find rope spaces, studios, salons, and events. Days and times.
  • Japanese rope and where to buy it
  • How Shibari classes actually work in Japan
  • What prices to expect and how to budget
  • Cultural context and practical tips for foreigners

Most of this information exists only in Japanese or through word of mouth.

This guide brings it together in one place.

Why this guide matters:

  • Saves weeks or months of searching
  • Helps you plan your trip around rope events and classes
  • Reduces confusion and awkward situations
  • Lets you focus on the experience instead of logistics

If Japan is on your rope horizon, this guide will make your trip clearer, smoother, and far more intentional.

Enjoy.

Comprehensive and Exciting

Hoping to one day explore this with my partner, the guide is comprehensive and simple allowing for easy understanding. Detailing everything you could be curious about including price ranges, venues, masters, even rope types in country. VoudouRopes shows once again her mastery at making shibari approachable for everyone from beginners to masters of the art. 10/10!

Great information with lots of specifics

Going to a different country where one doesn't speak the language to study an erotic art that is considered taboo and not talked about much... all that is challenging enough. But with a guide like this book, I feel confident I could visit Japan, meet the teachers I need to meet and hopefully (one day) go even deeper in my study of Shibari. Thank you Anastasia for putting this guide together!!
