Cranachan is a knitting pattern as delicious as its namesake. With masses of cosy and luxurious garter stitch for easy knitting, a delicate lace edging adding interest and completed with a beautiful rippling border, this asymmetrical shawl is a fun and engaging knit! Designed with three sizes in mind, it works with 100g, 200g and 300g of fingering weight yarn. The sample is shown in the medium size.

The pattern is fully written and charted so whichever way you like to read your patterns, you’re covered! The pattern has been tech edited and test knitted. There’s a screenshot of the pattern and a list of the stitches used at the bottom of the photos.

Materials
  • 360 (720, 1080) m (394 (788, 1182) yds) of Eden Cottage Yarns Coniston Fingering (56% Extrafine Superwash Merino, 44% Superkid Mohair, 394 yds/100g) in Carnations
  • 3 mm (US 2.5) circular needles, 100 cm (40”) or longer (or straight needles), or size needed to get gauge
  • 2 stitch markers
  • Yarn needle for sewing in ends
  • Blocking mat and pins
Gauge

22 stitches and 38 rows in 10 cm (4”) in garter stitch after blocking (stretching hard and pinning out while wet).

Differences in gauge will affect the amount of yarn used and may also change the size of the finished shawl.

Finished Size

Small: 105 cm long by 44 cm deep (41” by 17.5”)
Medium: 150 cm long by 57 cm deep (59” by 22.5”)
Large: 170 cm long by 65 cm deep (67” by 25.5”)
