Solstice Skirt PDF sewing tutorial with a beginner-friendly photo guide and detailed notes.
Sewing level: Suitable for a confident beginner, or a more experienced sewist looking for a relaxed and simple project, or wanting to expand skills.
Fabric recommendations: Light- to medium-weight cottons, such as poplin, batik, Indian block prints, or patchwork fabrics. Also suitable for scraps which are similar to this.
Main description:
The Solstice Skirt is fully customisable and the tutorial will guide you through planning your own.
- Sized entirely to your own measurements for a perfect fit
- From above the knee to floor-length
- Choose to have two tiers, three, four or more
- As lightly gathered or as full as you like
- Drawstring waist (can be replaced with elastic if preferred)
- Optional inseam pockets – actual pockets which are properly sized to be functional
Written with instructions for a patchwork skirt, though you can make your tiers from a single fabric for simplicity, or take it beyond the tutorial with pintucks, trims, and lace. The end result is entirely, unmistakably yours.
Your download includes three PDFs:
- The main pattern (33 pages) — guidance on planning, sizing, and fabric requirements, a 13-page detailed photo tutorial, and a printable section with a calculations guide and text-only tutorial
- The printable section as a standalone PDF — for ease of printing
- A pocket template PDF for the optional pocket pieces
Note: The PDFs are formatted for A4 paper. US letter paper may display slightly differently. The only sized pattern template is the pocket piece - instructions are included for a hand-drawn alternative with measurements, if needed.
