Tarocco Soprafino Tarot Deck - Old Treasure Map Design - Historical Tarot 1835

An original design of the Tarfocchi Sopraffino (also known as the Tarocco Soprafino or Tarocchino Milanese) tarot deck, created in an Old Treasure Map aesthetic. The original deck was commissioned in 1835 by Milanese printer Ferdinand Gumppenberg and illustrated by the renowned engraver Carlo Dellarocca. This deck marked the beginning of a beautiful new style in tarot history, and it has long been a favourite among collectors and tarot enthusiasts.

I stepped away from creating tarot decks a few years ago to focus more on my artwork, but I recently rediscovered this project—half finished on my computer since 2021—and felt inspired to complete it. I’m so happy to share it with you, and I hope you enjoy this unique interpretation.

Dellarocca, trained by master engraver Giuseppe Longhi, introduced several tarot images in the Soprafino that had no precedent in earlier decks. I’ve highlighted some of these fascinating differences in a blog post on my website: Tarocchi Sopraffino
