When I went vegan in 2017, I refused to let go of the foods that shaped me. I studied my Mama and Daddy in the kitchen, called elders for guidance, and learned to cook the way my ancestors did, by feel, by taste, and by spirit. Many of these recipes were never written down. They were passed through generations through watching, listening, and trusting intuition. This book is the result of years of trial and error, deep respect for tradition, and learning that plants are truly the MVPs behind the bold, layered flavors we love.


CaribSoul is also a family story. My parents and sisters played a huge role in helping me crack the code, from veganizing Guyanese staples like pepperpot and saltfish to perfecting soul food classics like that OG sliceable mac and cheese and sweet potato pie! Along the way, I learned powerful stories about my grandmothers, their migrations, and how food was one of the ways they preserved culture, love, and survival. That legacy lives on through every recipe in this book.
